Two hundred rice accessions representing 15 Oryza species (both diploid and tetraploid) viz. O. glaberrima, O. rufipogon, O. barthil, O. nivara, O. longistaminata, O. meridionalis, O. eichingeri, O. australiensis, O. brachyantha, O. minuta, O. punctata, O. latifolia, O. grandiglumis, O. glumaepatula and O. rhizomatis encompassing six genomes (AA to FF) were evaluated for reaction to Sheath blight (ShB), Sheath rot (ShR) and Bacterial blight (BB) under artificial epiphytotic conditions during Kharif 2003 and 2004 to detect sources of multiple disease resistance. Sixty one accessions were resistant/moderately resistant (R/MR) to BB, and ShR whereas, seven accessions namely, IRGC Nos. 81940 and 81941 belonging to O. nivara and IRGC Nos. 103303,105165, 105268, 105270 and 105272 belonging to O. australiensis were R/MR to both ShR and ShB. IRGC No. 105272 belonging to O. australiensis was resistant to all the three diseases evaluated here. These resistant accessions can serve as donors of multiple disease resistance in the irrigated agroecosystem particularly in Punjab and the adjoining north western India for widening the resistance gene pool of Oryza sativa.
