Effect of glyphosate and glufosinate Ammonium on regeneration potential of Sorghum halepense (L) pers

Abstract

Sorghum halepense (L) Pers. (Johnson grass) is a problem perennial weed in certain areas in kharif crops like cotton, maize, sugarcane and orchards. Two non-selective herbicides namely glyphosate and glufosinate ammonium were tested for their effect on control and regeneration potential of this perennial weed for three years from 2003 to 2005. Split applications of herbicides were better than their single application. Glyphosate was more effective than glufosinate ammonium as it reduced the regeneration potential by causing shoot mortality and in turn lesser rhizome formation.
