Production functions for the performance irrigation parameters and yield in maize under furrow irrigation system

Abstract

Field experiments were conducted for a furrow irrigation system at an experimental site in Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana with sandy loam soil, cultivated with maize using different irrigation treatments. The experiment had field lengths of 50 m, 40 m and 30 m and furrow inflow rates as 2.0 l/s, 1.5 l/s and 1.0 l/s. The study was conducted to determine the performance of furrow irrigation method. It was based on performance indices such as water requirement efficiency, water distribution efficiency and requirement distribution efficiency. The production functions between irrigation performance parameters and yield were developed. The requirement distribution efficiency and water requirement efficiency best correlated with the yield of maize for quadratic function with Ra2= 0.9210 and Ra2= 0.9356, respectively. The water distribution efficiency showed a poor correlation with yield of maize for quadratic function (Ra2 = 0.3510).
