Transmission studies of 662 keV gamma photons from 137Cs have been carried out in five varieties of Wood i.e. Dek, Poplar, Shisham (heart and sap) and Babul at different moisture levels in between oven dry and completely wet states. Mass attenuation coefficients (cm2/gm) have been estimated for all the cases from the slope of relative transmission versus thickness (gm/cm2) curve. We observe that the values of mass attenuation coefficient at varying moisture levels lie in between that of oven dry and completely wet samples. In all the cases mass attenuation coefficient, u,vs percentage moisture content graphs show a linear trend. Least square fitting of the data of relative transmitted intensity (%) vs thickness of absorbers (gm/cm2) provides a correlation coefficient which lies in between -0.97 to -0.99 in all the cases studied by us.
