Genetic analysis of some economic traits in main season cauliflower

Abstract

Generation mean analysis of six genetically diverse generations, i.e. P1 P2, F1, F2, B1 and B2 of cross RCJOB-1x PG-26 revealed that in cauliflower, both additive and non-additive gene effects, played an important role in the expression of traits such as plant height, plant spread, number of leaves per plant, days to curd maturity, net curd weight, curd diameter, curd angle and harvest index, whereas, whole plant weight and curd depth were controlled by dominant genes. The importance of reciprocal recurrent selection for the above characters having additive and non-additive gene effects at significant level and heterosis breeding where dominant gene effects were found predominantly may be exploited.
