A half diallel set of eight hexaploid triticales was studied over three environments. Analysis for variance for general (GCA) and specific combining ability(SCA) effects indicated the importance of both additive and non-additive gene action in the inheritance of all the traits studied. Higher magnitude of GCA effects suggested the predominance of additive gene action in the expression of these traits. In general the additive component of variance was more stable over the environments as compared to non-additive genetic variance. Further, there was more similarity between per se performance and GCA effects as compared to per se performance and SCA effects. Three parents viz.. ITSN 163, ITYN 16 and ITSN 9 were observed as good general combiners for yield and its components. Crosses ITSN 163 x ITSN 9, T 2609 x TL 1210, ITSN 163 x TL 1210 and T 2609 x T 2570 were identified as promising for possible use in improvement of yield and its components in triticale.
