Development of Jacket Patterns Based on Some Preferences

A study was undertaken to develop jacket patterns for college girls and selecting harmonising colours and fabrics according to each selected pattern. For this, 20 models of jacket designs were developed on drawing sheets by incorporating various design features. An inventory was developed to find out the order of preferences of college girls for various designs and the harmonising colours and fabrics for each design. A sample of 120 girls was selected randomly, 40 each from III, IV and V years of B.Sc. Home Science of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. The results were interpreted through scores and ranks, and percentages. The respondents were asked to give first 10 preferences out of 20 designs. The first preferred design was give ten scores and the 10th, one score. The scores were computed to assign ranks. First six ranked designs were considered for developing paper patterns and construction of jackets. It was found out that the first six preferred jacket designs were models. 16 in cream coloured cotswool, 15 in black corduroy, 17 in black tapestry, 18 in cream khadi, and 6 and 3 in Navy blue denim.
