Production of Phospholipase a by Isolates of Salmonella SP.

A total of 32 isolates belonging to six serotypes of Salmonella sp. were screened for the presence of phospholipase A activity using egg yolk clearance assay technique. Five of the 32 (15.6%) strains produced enzyme out of which three strains produced both intracellular and extracellular enzyme while two $$ains produced only intracellular enzyme. Quantitative assay showed that strain S₃₀ was a hyperphospholipase A producing strain having maximum intracellular (6.87 µg LPC mg⁻¹ protein) and extracellular (7.90 µg LPC mg⁻¹ protein).
