Development of Bed Farming Technology

Bed farming technology for wheat and some other crops is quite popular in some countries of the world. Its major advantages are in saving water and other costly and scarce inputs. The reduction in lodging and potential for obtaining higher wheat yield is also mentioned as advantage. Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana has been working on the development of bed former as well as bed farming technology for wheat, cotton and some other crops. A bed former has been developed and experiments for growing wheat as well as cotton and soybean were conducted. The details of the machine and experiences gained along with the problems and prospects of bed farming technology are high lighted in this paper.
