Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at the Wheat Research Farm, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana to ascertain the effect of rate and time of nitrogen application on grain yield of durum wheat during rabi seasons of 1995–96 and 1996–97. The application of nitrogen from 120 to 180 Kg/ha did not result into any significant increase in grain yield. The application of nitrogen in two splits i.e. half at sowing and half at crown root initiation stage (T1) recorded significantly higher mean grain yield over all the other split application treatments barring half at sowing and half at first node (T2) where the differences in grain yield were not statistically significant.
