Application of dimenthylol dihydroxy ethylene urea (DMDHEU) - zinc metal acrylate finish resulted in improvement of certain properties of jute and jute based fabrics. The effect was dependent upon the type of fabric and concentration of zinc nitrate in the finish. Stiffness and wrinkle recovery of pure jute, jute cotton and jute cotton viscose fabrics were enhanced with the DMDHEU - zinc metal acrylate combination. The decrease in elongation and tensile strength with the combination finish was comparable to that with DMDHEU and acrylic acid finish, especially in the case of T3 (1.5% zince nitrate) on jute cotton and jute-cotton-viscose fabrics. Laundering led to a significant decrease in stiffness and wrinkle recovery injute and jute-cotton. Variation in laundering cycles had a significant effect on this decrease. Resin finish containing 1.5 per cent zinc nitrate was recommended for value addition of jute and jute based products for various end uses.
