Economics of Flower Seed Production in Punjab

The present study was undertaken in Ludhiana district of Punjab to estimate the economics of flower seed production. Results of the study showed that 84.63 percent of total area under flower crops on selected grower farms were under seed production of flowering annuals. Total cost of cultivation was Rs. 55276.21 per hectare of which operational cost was 73.44 per cent and fixed cost 26.56 percent. Amongst various cost components human labour accounted for the major portion of total cost, the figure being 59.04 per cent. Return to cost _A1 i.e. return to owner cultivator was Rs. 78905.70 per hectare and return to cost C₂ i.e. net return from this crop was Rs. 64266.09 per hectare. It was further observed that seed production of flowering annuals was mostly adopted by the flower growers due to favourable marketing arrangement in this crop.
