A field experiment was conducted for three years (1992–93 to 94–95) to study the direct effect of N levels (0, 30 and 60 kg N/ha) on seed yield, N uptake, crop growth and phenology of sunflower grown after potato which had received 0 to 50 t FYM/ha. Sunflower responded to 30 kg N/ha where it followed potato raised with FYM and upto 60 kg N/ha where it followed potato without FYM. The N uptake of sunflower was significantly influenced by N levels. Leaf Area Index (LAI) and plant height of sunflower were also affected by N rates and FYM. Application of N and FYM decreased the days to anthesis and increased the duration of seed filling.
