Combining ability analysis was conducted in a 10 x 10 full diallel set of crosses in triticale for grain protein and other quality characters in the F1 and F2 generations sown under two unilocation environments. Both the additive and non-additive gene actions, were important for all the traits. The per se performance of the parents provided good indication of their general combining ability for grain hardness (TCB 207) and protein content (TCB 207). The TL 1210 x JNIT 142 for grain hardness and TL 2413 x TL 2505 for flour recovery and chapati score were the best crosses. Exploitation of additive and non-additive gene actions through biparental matings or dialel selective mating systems has been suggested.
