Correlations among grain yield and 12 other characters and path coefficients of grain yield with other characters were determined in 90 F1 crosses and their F2 generation generated by mating 10 diverse triticale lines in a diallel fashion including reciprocals in triticale (X Triticosecale Wittmack). Grain yield showed significant phenotypic positive association with effective tillers per plant, plant height, 1000-grain weight and grains per ear in the F1 and F2 generations. None of the quality characters had any significant correlation with grain yield. The highest direct effect on grain yield was exerted by flour recovery and grain density in both the generations. Also, these characters had the highest indirect effect on grain yield through each other. The implications of these results in triticale breeding have been discussed.
