Abstract

This research study explores the student behaviour in using the Internet sources of information in their academic work. Considering the importance of Internet utilisation, an exploratory study was conducted among the students of the National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal, Haryana. The constraints faced by respondents were recorded under four different categories, i.e. physical, technical, economical and operational constraints. The majority of the respondents revealed that, inadequate availability of Internet facilities at campus level (90.80%), slow functioning of server (91.67%), variations in charges (42.50%) and lack of Internet-oriented education and training (74.17%) were ranked first under above-said four respective categories. The suggestions for effective utilisation of Internet services, as perceived by the respondents in rank order were, provision of more Internet facility at individual level (90.00%), followed by provision of reliable live links between library's catalogue and subscription to E-journals (70.83%) and demanded regular practical training (70.0%) on Internet use.
