Effect of feeding rice based brewers dried grain on nutrients utilization and skeletal growth in broiler chicken

Experiment was conducted to study the response of feeding sun dried rice based brewers dried grain (RBDG) on growth performance, skeletal growth and nutrients utilization of broiler chickens. Feeding trial was conducted for six weeks in completely randomized design (CRD) by using 175 day old broiler chicks divided into five treatments of 35 chicks with five replicates per treatment. Five experimental diets were prepared as per ICAR (2013) by incorporating rice brewers dried grain (0, 5, 10, 15 and 20%) respectively by replacing maize and soybean meal from basal diet. The results revealed that body weight, feed intake and feed conversion ratio of broiler chicken differed significantly (P<0.01) due to feeding different levels of RBDG. The skeletal growth of tibia bone in term of bone morphometry such as length, proximal width, mid shaft width and distal width, and tibia bone mineralization such as fresh bone weight, dried bone weight, bone moisture, total ash, calcium (Ca) and phosphorus (P) contents did not differed significantly (P>0.05). Utilization of nitrogen such as, nitrogen intake (g/b/d), nitrogen retained (g/b/d) and nitrogen retention (%) did not differed significantly. However, mean value of nitrogen voided (g/b/d) was significantly (P<0.05) increased at inclusion level of 20% RBDG than those recorded at 0, 5 and 15% RBDG in broiler diets. The nutrient utilization of calcium and phosphorus also did not differed significantly. In conclusion, 15% rice based brewers dried grain (RBDG) can be safely incorporated in broiler diet for better growth performance, nutrient utilization and skeleton growth
