Abstract

A study was carried out to determine the effects of supplementation of probiotic on growth performance in broiler. A total of 120 Nandanam broiler day old chicks were equally divided in to treatment and control group of 60 chicks each. The probiotic were supplemented to the treatment group, and without probiotic were given to the control group, up to 10 weeks. During this study, the weekly body weight, body weight gain, feed consumption, feed conversion ratio, livability, probeads intake and carcass yields were recorded. There was a non-significant difference in body weight was observed during 1st week of age. However, a significant (P d” 0.05) difference in body weight was observed between treatment and control group from 2nd to 10th weeks of age. Similarly, higher body weight gain was observed between 4th and 10th weeks of age. The FCR also showed no significant difference among the treatment and control group during the initial phase of the study (1st to 4th week). However, from 5th to 6th week of age showed significantly (P d” 0.01) better FCR in treatment group than control group and the same trend was observed up to 10th week of age. It is concluded that supplementation of probiotic (Probeads-EC®) had improved the overall performance of Nandanam broiler chicken.
