The study was conducted for an economic analysis of broiler farming enterprises in Jorhat district of Assam and as well as to identify the various constraints faced by the broiler farmers. Sixty broiler farming enterprises were selected from Jorhat and Titabor sub divisions in the district. The broiler farming enterprises were classified into three groups viz. Group I rearing less than 500 birds (66.66 percent of sample), Group II rearing 500–1000 birds (13.33 percent of sample) and Group III rearing more than 1000 birds (20.00 percent of the sample). Data were collected through a specially prepared schedule with variables identified through extensive literature review and in consultation with the broiler farming enterprises. The average benefit cost ratios of broiler enterprises were estimated to be 1.11, 1.15 and 1.16 for Group I, Group II and Group III respectively in Jorhat subdivision and 1.06, 1.10, 1.12 for Group I, Group II and Group III respectively in Titabor subdivision. On the basis of rank based quotients the study revealed that main problems of the broiler farming enterprises was high cost of chicks followed by high feed cost, lack of availability of quality chicks, high mortality rate, lack of organised market, lack of veterinary facilities etc. It can be concluded that though B:C ratio is more than unity in all the categories of broiler farming enterprises, there is a scope of improving farmers profit by providing reasonably priced chicks and feed of high quality.
