Salmonella Typhimurium is one of the major pathogen S responsible for causing common foodborne illnesses in humans. Public health problems associated with it in poultry have increased to the extent that it has become a major issue. The currently available vaccines suffer limitation like short term immunity. So, to control infection there is an urgent need for the development of an effective and a long lasting vaccine. The outer membrane proteins of Salmonella have potential to be developed as a vaccine candidate for prevention of poultry salmonellosis. In the present study Omp 28 of Salmonella Typhimurium was amplified as ∼330 bp product. The DNA sequence analysis revealed a complete open reading frame. The number of negatively charged residues is higher than the positively charged residues, indicating that Omp 28 is an acidic protein. A high antigenic index and surface probability was observed for Omp 28. The presence of potent B cell and T cell epitopes clearly indicate the potential of the protein to elicit a humoral as well as cell mediated immune response. It was concluded that Omp28 may be proven as an effective candidate for the development of subunit vaccine against poultry salmonellosis.
