Effect of different sources of calcium and phosphorus with or without phytase on performance of Satpuda desi birds

Abstract

A study was conducted to exploit different sources of calcium and phosphorus with or without phytase on performance of Satpuda desi birds suitable for family poultry rearing. Three hundred and sixty (n=360) day old Satpuda desi chicks were randomly divided into six dietary treatments groups. Each dietary treatment had three replications of 20 chicks each reared upto ten weeks of age on deep litter system. All the six dietary treatment groups were fed on corn soya based diet as per BIS (1992) having CP 21% and ME 2700 Kcal. The different sources of calcium and phosphorus were added as (T1) Limestone Powder and Di-calcium phosphate, (T2) Limestone powder and diammonium phosphate, (T3) Limestone powder and Single Super Phosphate, where as T4, T5 and T6 contained same sources with the addition of enzyme phytase @ 300 g/ton of feed. The body weight gain and FCE was significantly (P<0.01) better in T5 group comparing with other dietary treatments. Significantly higher DM metabolizability, N, Ca and P retention were observed in T5 group than other dietary treatments. The blood biochemicals assessed during fifth and tenth week revealed significantly (P<0.01) higher values of Hb, TEC, TLC, Ca, P and ALP recorded in T5 group than other dietary treatments. The carcass traits revealed non-significant difference due to various sources of calcium and phosphorus and phytase. The bone mineralization traits, such as tibia strength, tibia weight, tibia ash, tibia calcium and phosphorus were significantly higher in T5 group as compared to other dietary treatments. The net profit Rs/kg gain was highest in T5 group than other dietary treatment group. It was concluded that inclusion of lime stone powder and Di-ammonium phosphate with phytase @ 300 g/ton feed supplementation in corn-soya based diet yields better profit in Satpuda desi bird production. Further Lime stone powder and Di-ammonium phosphate can be supplemented as cheaper calcium and phosphorus source for backyard poultry rearing.
