Genetic variability within as well as between a long term selected (WLH) and control (WLC) lines of White Leghorn were estimated by two measures i.e. based on band sharing (BS) proportion and based on the band frequency (BF). The overall within population genetic similarity was 0.877 in WLH and 0.841 in WLC, when based on band sharing proportion, while within population genetic similarity, estimated as band frequency was 0.842 and 0.777 in WLH and WLC group, respectively. The between population genetic similarity estimates from BS and BF between WLC and WLH lines were 0.985 and 0.941, respectively. The genetic distance estimates pooled over primers were 0.0149 when based on band sharing and 0.060, when based on band frequency. These estimates revealed very high genetic similarity between WLC and WLH in spite difference in selection criteria for more than 25 generations.
