Abstract

In this study, carcass, intestine, liver, gall bladder and spleen samples of chickens purchased randomly from the various retail shops in domestic markets were tested for the presence of Salmonella spp. The identity of Salmonella spp. was further proved by culture and by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). A total of 585 samples were tested from 113 birds. Chicken carcasses, intestines, livers, gall bladders and spleen were found positive for Salmonella spp. with proportions of 12.39%, 7.08%, 4.42%,2.65% and 1.76% respectively. The most sensitive and accurate molecular biology tools helps in rapid detection of Salmonella from chicken samples and given 248bp amplified PCR product.
