Abstract

Path coefficient analysis was undertaken to assess the direct and indirect influences of four 28-day auxiliary part records from 25 to 40 weeks of age on the total part term egg production up to 40 weeks of age in a colored broiler dam line (PB2). The egg production during the first (25–28 weeks) and second (29–32 weeks) part periods had a major influence on the cumulative egg production up to 40 weeks of age as revealed by their strong direct and indirect effects when compared to the last two part records during 33–36 and 37–40 weeks of age. The second part record, on account of the maximum number of birds in production and in terms of its considerable direct and indirect effects on egg production up to 40 weeks of age, could be recommended for phenotypic selection of pullets for improving the cumulative egg production up to 40 weeks of age.
