Abstract

Studies were conducted on the processing of dead birds by dry rendering method in the carcass and by products utilization plant. Dead birds were stored in the deep freezer at −20°C. On the day of trial the Dead layer poultry birds were subjected to dry rendering process and fat was separated from the cooked material by centrifugation. The defatted material was dried and pulvarized to get poultry carcass meal. The average yield, proximate composition and microbial analyses of the poultry carcass meal revealed a yield of 35.6%, mean moisture of 8.5%, crude protein of 60.9%; crude fibre 0.54%, ether extract 10.7%, sand and silica 0.71%; total ash 13.16%, and salt 0.53% and absence of Salmonella, E.coli and Clostridium. This revealed that dry rendering of dead poultry birds is effective way of disposal besides obtaining protein carcass meal.
