Abstract

In order to evaluate the adjuvant activity of a lipodial amine compound avridine, vaccines were prepared with or without adjuvant containing live lentogenic Newcastle disease ‘F’ strain (NDF). The vaccines were applied through intranasal route and the intestinal immune response was evaluated by measuring anti-viral IgG and IgA antibodies in intestinal secretions. The intra-epithelial lymphocytes (IELs) were subjected to in-vitro re-stimulation with the viral antigen to assess the proliferative responses. Both humoral and cell mediated immune responses of intestine were of similar levels to NDF vaccine controls suggesting no influence of avridine on intestinal immune responses. Overall the studies suggest that induction of intestinal immune response to avridine adjuvanted vaccine is influenced by route of vaccination and vaccine virus strain.
