Evaluation of egg quality traits of chickens reared under backyard system in western Uttar Pradesh

Abstract

A study was conducted on 50 eggs of chicken maintained under backyard system in Bareilly district to evaluate the internal and external egg quality parameters. The egg weight, shape index, shell weight, yolk weight, albumin weight, specific gravity, shell thickness, yolk index, albumin index and haugh unit were 52.95±0.59 g, 74.23±.061, 6.57±0.15 g, 16.88±0.30 g, 29.19±0.46 g, 1.09±0.001, 0.42±0.006 mm, 0.395±0.008, 0.085±0.005 and 75.48±0.94, respectively. It was further observed that shell, yolk and albumin weight was 12.40, 31.89 and 55.08% of the total egg weight, respectively.
