In this study, neuropeptide Y gene polymorphism has been investigated in RIR-B and Dahlem red chicken by PCR-RFLP. Two genotypes (AA and BB) created by the presence or absence of a 4bp Dra I site were identified. The genotype amplicons were sequenced and submitted in the Genbank with accession nos. EU447658 and EU447659. The frequency of AA and BB genotypes was 40.0% and 60.0%; 57.9% and 42.1% in RIR-B and Dahlem red, respectively. The analysis of the identified polymorphism with growth and reproduction traits showed that the birds with BB (presence of Dra I site) genotype sexually matured at an early age than the birds with AA genotype (absence of Dra I site) and were found to have higher body weight at 24 weeks of age.
