The effectiveness of selective antiviral compound, an appropriate dose for administration and the economic aspect of the use of the drug in treating birds infected with Ranikhet disease was carried out. The drug Amantadine, Ribavirin and their combination were tested. The total Amantadine drug required for entire course of treatment for one bird was 40 mg and the cost was Rs.1.60 per bird. It was concluded that the drug Amantadine @ 2 mg/kg bw twice daily for ten days when administered orally offered good protection.
