Abstract

Day old vaccinated broiler strain chicks were raised on neem fruit cake aqueous extract (NCAE) at the rate of 5% and 10% (w/v) replacing drinking water. The hemogram of the control and NCAE group birds were comparable. No statistical differences were seen in hemoglobin, packed cell volume, total erythrocytic and total leucocytic counts. The biochemical tests used were serum albumin, uric acid, alkaline phosphatase and acid phosphatase. The nonsignificant differences were observed in various biochemical values of control and NCAE supplemented groups. This suggests that the neem principles given as aqueous extract are well tolerated by the broilers and there is no physiopathological alteration in protein turnover from liver of the neem extract given birds.
