Assessment of immunomodulatory effect of Stresroak and Levamisole on the maternal immunity against infectious bursal disease by indirect ELISA

Abstract

The treatment of 120 White Leghorn breeder chicks with Stresroak (polyherbal preparation) and Levamisole along with vaccination against infectious bursal disease (IBD) resulted in significantly higher antibody levels by indirect ELISA at 2 and 4 months of age than the untreated vaccinated group. The geometric mean (GM) antibody titres in Stresroak and Levamisole treated groups at 2 months of age were 1100±60.38 and 1033.33±55.48 respectively and in the untreated group was 866.66±68.55. The maternal antibody levels in respective progeny groups from Stresroak and Levamisole treated breeder groups were also higher as compared to the antibody titres in progeny group from untreated breeder group. The antibody titres in progeny groups declined gradually and at 14th day no antibody titre in the progeny group from untreated breeder group could be detected.
