A cross-section of 47 chicken consuming urban households from Bareilly District were selected through multistage stratified random sampling technique. The relevant data on demographic characteristics, religion, income, family budget, consumption/expenditure on chicken, other food and non food items and their prices were collected by interviewing heads of household with the help of pre-tested questionnaire. The analysis of variance showed that various occupational groups (Agriculture, Business, Service, Ag labour) socio-economic status-groups and family size groups did not differ significantly in respect of consumption/expenditure of chicken. However, there was significant variation between religions (Hindu, Muslim, Sikh) in respect of consumption expenditure of chicken.
