Abstract

Prevalence of helminthic infection in Japanese quail was studied in and around Patna. Bihar during the period of July' 99 to June' 2000. Altogether 300 faecal samples of Japanese quails of two age groups (150 quails below 5 weeks of age and 150 above 5 weeks of age) were screened in three different seasons for the prevalence of helminthic infection. The over all prevalence was found to be 51.6 percent. Quails were found to be infected with six species of helminths (five species of nematodes and one species of cestode). Young quails were found more susceptible to nematode infection with highest prevalence in winter seasons. The cestodes were more prevalent in adults quails with peak prevalence in monsoon seasons.
