Undetoxified Simaruba (Simarallba glallca) oil cake (UDSOC) and detoxified Simaruba oil cake (DSOC) contained crude protein 32.37 and 37.21; ether extract 11.23 and 2.4; crude fibre 17.09 and 21.42; total ash 8.17 and 9.80; acid insoluble ash 3.46 and 4.19; nitrogen free extract 30.94 and 29.17; calcium 0.54 and 0.66 and phosphorus 0.81 and 0.97 percent, respectively on dry matter basis. Two hundred and ten dayold synthetic broiler chicks were randomly distributed into seven treatments and were fed ration containing either DSOC 0 (T1), 2.5 (T2), 5.0 (T3), 7.5 (T4) and 10.0 (T5) or UDSOC 2.5 (T6), 5.0 percent (T7) by replacing soyabean oil cake and deoiled rice bran on isonitrogenous basis for aperiod of six weeks. The sixth week body weight gain of chicks in T1, T2, T3, T4, T5, T6 and T7 were 1230, 1235, 1228, 1205, 1140, 243 and 162 g respectively. The body weight gain of chicks in T1, T2, T3 and T4 were comparable but were significantly (P<0.05) higher from T5, T6 and T7. Numerically control group had the best feed efficiency. There was 23.33 percent mOortality in T6 and T7. The total serum protein level decreased significantly (P<0.05) in T5, T6 and T7. The ASAT, ALAT and ALP activity in serum increased significantly (P<0.05) in T5, T6 and T7. No histopathological lindings were observed in liver and kidneys of the chicks fed DSOC. T5 showed submucosal congestion and haemorrhage of intestine. In the UDSOC fed groups microscopically llcpatic cells revealed granular degeneration and the epithelial cells of small intestine exhibited degeneration, congestion and haemorrhage of its submucosa. In the kidneys reduced number of glomeruli with degeneration of epithelial cells of both convoluted tubule was observed. DSOC up to 5 percent in the ration of broiler may be incorporated.
