Fish meal was replaced by poultry by-product meal (PBPM) at 0,25,50,75 and 100 per cent levels on isoproteinic and isocaloric basis in layer diets. Commerical Babcock layers were randomly distributed in five groups of 24 in each with three replicates in each group. The experment was carried out for 4 x 28 d periods. The hen-day egg production, feed intake and feed efficiency were significantly (P<0.01) affected in 100% PBPM fed group compared to other groups. However, the body weight gain, egg weight, albumen index, haemoglobin and total serum proteins were not significantly affected. Mortality (0–2%) and causes there of were found to be independent of dietary treatments. Based on the economic traits and income overfeed cost, the PBPM could be incorporated safely upto 75% by replacing the fishmeal on isoproteinic and isocaloric basis.
