Ureter of Japapanese quals uriginated as ureteral branches within the kidney. Mucosa, submucosa and muscularis were the layers of ureteric wall. Ureter and its branches had a pseudostratified columnar epithelial lining. Submucosa contained connective tissue fibres, cells and blood vessels while muscularis had an inner longitudinal and outer circular layer of smooth muscles. The adventitia contained connective tissue, blood vessels and adipose tissue. Ureter and its branches showed a positive reaction to periodic acid Schiff (PAS) reagent and PAS with alcian blue in luminal border of lining cells. Acid phosphatase (ACP) activity was strong in mucosa and mild to moderate in other layers whereas reaction to lipids and alkaline phosphatase (AKP) was negative.
