Carcass characteristics of improved guinea fowl at different weeks of age

A total of 62 guinea fowl birds were evaluated for carcass characteristics at 12th, 16th and 56th weeks of age. The percent carcass yields were significantly higher at early ages (77.85 and 76.44) incomparison to adult age (74.16). Though the blood plus feather losses (8.29 to. 9.82%) were indifferent at all ages, the percent of fal loss increased significantly at adult age (12.06%) in comparison to the early ages (7.75 to 8.25%). The average percent yields from various carcass cuts such as wings, drumsticks, thighs, breasts, back and neck were 14.21, 12.97, 16.26, 28.45, 23.63 and 6.46 at 12th weeks of age and 12.71, 12.49, 14.35, 27.82, 26.17 and 5.86 at 56th weeks of age, respectively.
