In current research nonlinear optimisation problems arise that are challenging for existing, even state-of-the-art, software. In this paper we take a comprehensive look at this. First, we describe three related services provided for free to the community, guides on optimisation software and its performance as well as web-based optimisation solvers. Then, two representative problems are given in detail, both are from recent research in control. It is reported how these problems can be solved with the best available software tools. This connects back to the first part of the paper in which these problems and their solution have been integrated.
