The species Cionus meleagris Marshall (1926) was collected from Dolichandrone falcata in Karnataka, a tree endemic to India. Redescription and photographs of differential diagnostic characters and habitus are given. A DNA barcode was obtained and reported for molecular identification using cytochrome oxidase I (COI). The biology of the weevil was studied under laboratory conditions. The total developmental period from egg to adult ranges from 22–33 days. An updated checklist for the Indian Cionus species is provided.
