Characterization of Insecticidal Plants Used in Setif - Algeria

Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate and identify insecticidal plants used by the inhabitants of Setif (Est Algeria). The results revealed the existence of 41 plant species belonging to 21 families. The most represented families were the Lamiacae (seven species) and Asteraceae (five species). The most cited species were: Ocimum basilicum (25%), Myrtus communis (8.42%), and Saliva rosmarimus (6.31%). Mosquitoes were the insects most targeted by these plants include mosquitoes (43.58%), followed by ants (23.71%), flies (17.94%), and stored grain insects (14.74%). Furthermore, the most commonly used part were leaves (64.77%). The plants were most often used in their raw state (49.18%).
