The present study was conducted from February to May 2024 to assess mosquito species diversity in Guwahati metropolitan city, Assam in relation to the physical and chemical parameters of their breeding sites. A total of 993 mosquitoes from five species and three genera were collected, with Culex quinquefasciatus (Say) being the most abundant (43.60%) followed by Aedes aegypti (Linn) (19.23%), C. tritaeniorhynchus (Giles) (17.02%), Anopheles minimus (Theobald) (11.48%) and Ae. albopictus (Skuse) (8.66%). The larvicidal efficacy of methanolic extract of Lantana camara leaves against C.quinquefasciatus when evaluated revealed LC50 value of 167.078 ppm and an LC90 value of 375.889 ppm. Phytochemical screening revealed various compounds from the methanolic extract of L. camara.
