Bioefficacy of plant products against angoumois grain moth, Sitotroga cerealella (Olivier) on stored paddy

Abstract

Thirteen plant powders were evaluated as grain protectants against Angoumois grain moth, Sitotroga cerealella (Olivier) on stored paddy. Sweet flag, Acorus calamus @ 3g/kg was found to be the most effective treatment against S. cerealella with highest larval and adult mortality of 7.22% and 54.45%, respectively and lowest grain damage of 2.26% and weight loss of 0.17%. Further, it was also observed that A. calamus gave the lowest adult emergence of S. cerealella (10.67%) against 36% in untreated control. A. calamus was closely followed by Melia azedarach and Jatropha gossypifolia which were at par with each other. Lantana camara @ 3g/kg was found to be the least effective with lowest larval and adult mortality of 2.11% and 29.45%, respectively and highest grain damage of 5.61% and weight loss of 2.42%.
