Histology and histochemistry of oviduct and accessory reproductive gland of female Oxya hyla hyla (Orthoptera: Acrididae)

Histological and histochemical analysis of the structural and functional aspects of female accessory reproductive glands of Oxya hyla hyla has been made. These are seen to be composed of a single layer of epithelial cells which are projected inside a lumen making villus like organization. Externally these cellular layers are covered by a thick layer of circular and longitudinal muscles in case of the oviduct. The lumen of both the oviduct and accessory gland is observed to be filled up with glycol-lipo-protein secretion which perhaps helps in parturition and egg pod production.
