Management Of Shoot And Fruit Borer,Leucinodes OrbonalisGuen. Through Border Cropping And Insecticides In Brinjal

A field experiments were conducted during kharif 2006 and 2007 to study the impact of various border crops coupled with some eco-friendly insecticides on brinjal shoot and fruit borer,Leucinodes orhonalis Guen. Three border crops .viz., baby corn, guar and radish were used along with the spray of either spinosad or thiamethoxam followed by abamectin/emamectin benzoate or Econeem. The main crop, border cropped with either baby corn or radish or guar along with two foliar sprays of spinosad @ 75g a.i./ha was very effective in minimizing the fruit borer incidence. Brinjal bordered with radish followed by foliar spray of thiamethoxam @ 20 g a.i./ha followed by abamectin @ 15 g a.i./ha and emamectin benzoate @ lOg a.i./ha gave highest yield viz., 17.128 MT/ha and 26.350 MT/ha, respectively. The growing of baby corn as border crop was economic and gave high net return.
