Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei (EHP) is a shrimp parasite associated with slow growth syndrome. A balanced gut microbiota acts as a barrier against pathogen invasion. This study investigates gut microbial diversity and composition during natural EHP infection in Penaeus vannamei farming. A significant increase in the abundance of Aeromonas (18.79%), Pseudomonas (10.92%), Prevotella (8.73%), Burkholderiales_unclassified (3.06%) was observed in EHP-infected shrimps compared to uninfected shrimps. These results contribute to the development of a signature pathobiome, which may aid in designing intervention strategies to overcome the disease.
