Prevalence of Salmonella enterica ser. gallinarum infection in poultry flocks in India

Fowl Typhoid (FT) is a disease of poultry and turkey which is caused by Salmonella Gallinarum species of gram negative bacteria. It is an acute or chronic in nature. The incidence of fowl typhoid higher in Asian countries rather than European countries. India has a significant role in poultry industry, and fowl typhoid primarily affects egg production and chicken quality. Appropriate biosecurity measures, cleaning and disinfection processes can prevent the infection, improve egg quality and production. It can be controlled and eradicated by elimination of positive birds. Vaccination program and antibiotics may be used to prevent the disease.
