Abstract

The aim of the present study was to develop rapid serum plate agglutination test for detecting Mycoplasma synoviae antibodies using Namakkal regional isolates in commercial layer chicken. Mycoplasma synoviae colour antigen was prepared using 0.5 per cent basic fuchsine dye with the antigen concentration of 3x109 organisms/ml for rapid serum plate agglutination test (RSPA). To find out sensitivity and specificity of developed RSPA test in comparison with indirect ELISA 184 serum samples were collected from layer flock and tested by rapid serum plate agglutination test and indirect ELISA. Seropositivity of M. synoviae antibodies in RSPA and indirect ELISA was 51.08 and 54.34 per cent, respectively. The sensitivity and specificity of RSPA with reference to indirect ELISA was found to be 94 and 100 per cent respectively.
