The indiscriminate uses of antibiotics and irrational treatment of bovine mastitis with different antibiotics have invited serious complication like multiple drug resistance. Till date different types of antibiotics have been tried against the pathogens in bovine mastitis with or without identification and drug sensitivity testing. The present study was conducted for the molecular characterization and identification of methicillin-resistant gene of Saphylococcus aureus as causative agent of bovine mastitis. In the present study, the disc diffusion method revealed 20 isolates out of total 38 staphylococci isolates to be methicillin resistant. Out of these 20 isolates, only 7 strains produced the expected amplified product when examined for the presence of methicillin resistant gene mecA with the amplicon size 533 bp
