A loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) assay targeting the ‘N’ gene of Peste des petits virus (PPRV) genome was developed. The sensitivity of the assay was 10-fold higher than that of conventional PCR in terms of copy number. In terms of TCID 50, it was found that the assay is 100 and 1000 times more sensitive than regular PCR and s-ELISA respectively. The results indicated that this technique can be applied to all types of clinical samples. The assay could detect PPRV in tissue paper impregnated with infected blood stored at room temperature and at 37°C for a period of one month.
