Unlike conventional systems which operate at discrete points on an operating line, vortex tube refrigeration systems offer a unique solution where the temperature and the cooling capacity of the system can be continuously varied by controlling the gas flow rate. An indigenous vortex tube operating at sub-zero temperatures is being designed and tested for study and analysis ofdifferentparameters governing its performance. A temperature difference of 60°C is achieved between the cold end and inlet in this specific design and refrigeration capacity of 100–150 W was observed in the whole operating range. This paper explains the different sets of experiments and their results obtained.
